Akshay Kumar’s Tirangaa Update: No Remake, Fresh Script
Bollywood Hungama reported earlier that Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Tirangaa is not a remake of the 1993 classic starring Nana Patekar and Raaj Kumar. Now, in an exciting new development, Tirangaa will be directed by National Award-winning filmmaker, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan.
Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan Joins Tirangaa
According to an inside source, the film’s producers—Ashvin Varde, Subhash Kale, and Narendra Hirawat—along with Akshay Kumar, decided that Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan is the right choice to direct this action-packed film. The source revealed,
“Sanjay will give the film the necessary commercial treatment while maintaining a high level of storytelling.”
Production Timeline
The highly anticipated film is set to begin production by December 2024.
Chauhan’s Acclaimed Work
Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan has a history of critically acclaimed films like Lahore (2010) and 72 Hoorain (2023), both of which earned him National Awards. He was also a writer for Ranveer Singh’s cricket drama ’83 (2021).
Interestingly, Chauhan and Akshay Kumar almost worked together earlier on a film titled Gorkha, which was later shelved. In a January 2023 statement, Aanand L Rai, the film’s producer, confirmed that the project was paused due to technical and factual issues.
Clarification on Tirangaa‘s Remake Rumors
In August 2023, producer Narendra Hirawat shut down rumors that Tirangaa was a remake of the 1993 film. His statement read,
“The reports claiming Tirangaa is a remake are false. It is an entirely original script. We will make an official announcement soon.”
With Tirangaa set to be directed by a filmmaker of Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan’s caliber, fans can expect a thrilling and impactful film. This collaboration with Akshay Kumar promises a unique cinematic experience as it brings a completely original story to the big screen. Production is set to begin in late 2024, and anticipation is already building for what could be one of the most awaited films in the coming years.
